A botanic garden and a research institution
Singapore Botanic Gardens is a botanical research institution and public garden in Singapore. Its official staff directory identifies it as a division of the National Parks Board (NParks). The Gardens’ history dates its establishment at the present Tanglin site to 1859.
Connections to Hoya research
The Gardens’ research community includes Michele Rodda, whose staff profile describes work on Apocynaceae taxonomy across Southeast Asia and New Guinea. This provides institutional context for his Hoya research; an affiliation does not establish who collected, identified or holds a particular plant or specimen.
The Gardens’ Bulletin Singapore provides another route into the research. The journal publishes botanical studies, including taxonomy and nomenclature, and is issued by NParks. Individual papers and their cited specimens remain the sources for particular scientific claims.
The Singapore Herbarium is a distinct collection
The Singapore Herbarium (SING), established in 1875, holds preserved botanical specimens and supporting collections. It forms part of the Gardens’ research setting, but its name and herbarium code should not be treated as alternative names for the entire institution.
A citation to SING identifies a repository. It does not confirm the identity, current location or availability of an individual sheet. Those questions require the specimen’s own record and, where necessary, direct examination.
