Citation

M. Rodda; N. Simonsson Juhonewe; D.J. Middleton. The taxonomic status of the presumed extinct Singaporean Hoya wallichii (Apocynaceae: Asclepiadoideae). 15 November 2016. pp. 175–187.

This 2016 study examines the identity and taxonomic history of Hoya wallichii and its distinction from H. campanulata. It was written by Michele Rodda, Nadhanielle Simonsson Juhonewe and David J. Middleton, and published in Gardens’ Bulletin Singapore 68(2): 175–187.

What the paper contributes

The authors compare specimens and living plants, distinguish the two species and examine how earlier authors applied their names. The paper includes formal descriptions, specimen citations, typifications, drawings and photographs.

Its conservation discussion separates extinction within Singapore from survival elsewhere. These are the authors’ assessments in 2016; they should be read alongside later surveys and conservation evidence.

Finding the evidence

  • Pages 176–178: naming history, comparison and interpretation of earlier material.
  • Pages 179–181: comparative photographs, drawings and type-sheet illustrations.
  • Pages 182–185: species treatments, cited specimens and conservation assessments.

Specimen citations identify material to investigate. They do not establish the identity of an uncited cultivated plant.
