Growing Profile · Numbered cultivation label; H62 and historical Giant links unresolved

Hoya lacunosa — Giant — IML 1813 / H62

Follow the IML 1813 grower account while keeping H62 and the historical Giant material unresolved.

Current evidence boundary

Provide accession-specific grower testimony and questions without merging H62 or historical Stemma Giant material.

Overview

The Giant label appears in more than one source. This profile follows the numbered IML 1813 account in Frostvit’s Flora and the combined IML-1813 H62 label in the historical checklist. The existing historical Giant profile preserves a separate 2007 account. A shared Giant label does not establish that these sources document the same plant.

What We Know

  • Label evidence: The historical checklist pairs Giant, IML-1813 and H62. The checklist preserves that wording but supplies no accession crosswalk or current ownership confirmation.
  • Liddle’s January 2009 catalogue lists IML 1813 as aff. lacunosa Giant, retaining a tentative determination. Its entry reports very large leaves and flowers measuring 1 cm. That is a historical nursery description, not a measurement of the Frostvit plant or of any current H62-labelled plant.
  • Frostvit’s Flora describes its IML 1813 plant as stout, with substantial foliage, strongly scented blooms and frequent flowering. These are observations of one grower’s material, rather than diagnostic characters for every Giant-labelled plant.
  • The grower recounts obtaining it in 2017, restarting it after severe treatment damage, and seeing its first flowers in 2020. That interrupted history cannot establish a normal time to flowering.
  • The grower also records damaged foliage after a combination of stronger light and missed watering. The account provides no measured conditions or tested care thresholds.
  • Neither this grower account nor the historical checklist proves equivalence between H62, IML 1813 and the tentative Giant material described in Stemma in 2007. The historical Giant profile remains separate.
  • MyHoyas captions a collection photograph “Hoya aff. lacunosa 'Giant' IML 1813”. The caption omits H62. Its visible album update is 11 July 2019, which does not date the accession’s collection or introduction. It documents a label occurrence, not an original accession record or a propagation link.

What We Are Still Learning

What original records connect IML 1813 with H62?

What would help: Dated accession catalogues or original labels with an explicit cross-reference and traceable plant history. The MyHoyas IML1813 caption also retains aff. and omits H62. Record those source-specific differences rather than treating the caption as a code crosswalk.

Contribute evidence for this question

Is this material connected to the Giant account published in 2007?

What would help: Original distribution and acquisition records linking the specific plants, supported by flowering vouchers or identified photographs.

Contribute evidence for this question

Which observations recur in traceable IML 1813 plants?

What would help: Dated foliage and flower records, measurements and growing conditions from independently documented accessions.

Contribute evidence for this question

Do identified plants have distinctive growing requirements?

What would help: Qualifying published scientific field observations or controlled cultivation studies. Record treatment damage and other confounders.

Common Misconceptions

  • Giant is a descriptive cultivation label, not a botanical rank or an accession crosswalk.
  • H62 appearing alongside IML-1813 in a checklist does not by itself prove that the codes identify one clone.
  • One damaged plant’s flowering history cannot establish a normal waiting period or a general care prescription.
  • The catalogue’s aff. qualifier records uncertainty. A later label omitting aff. does not, by itself, resolve the botanical determination.
