The July 2022 issue of Stemma includes Rachel Colette Conroy’s historical discussion of Compacta on pages 28–43. It compares names, nursery accounts, books and patent history, and distinguishes Compacta from Hummel’s Krinkle Kurl.
The article attributes a reported 1952 origin to Minnie Belle Hummel through William Drysdale. That report remains distinct from a verified origin record. Its tentative dating of early Exotica editions and its hypotheses about origins should retain their uncertainty.
Later source comparisons matter: the filed 1960 Hummel catalog predates the article’s illustrated 1965/66 catalog, and exact patent identities must be checked against the original patents. The article’s historical synthesis does not supply controlled evidence for Compacta-specific care.
