Kloppenburg and colleagues described Hoya pubicorolla in Hoya New 1(2):13–19 (2013), followed by H. pubicorolla subsp. anthracina on pages 20–24. The latter treatment designates holotype 14597 (PUH) and compares floral structures with H. pubicalyx; it is a new subspecies description, rather than a blanket renaming of every cultivated pubicalyx.
The commercial label Black Dragon is associated with this subspecies in current nursery usage. This is evidence of selling-name usage, separate from botanical publication and authentication of an individual accession. The 2013 treatment does not explicitly use the words Black Dragon.
Existing original issue and extraction are archived privately. This page provides original factual paraphrase and citation; source photographs and full text are not redistributed.
Evidence scope and limits
Complete issue and extraction archived. Published comparisons and misidentification claims are attributed to their authors; specimen identities and blanket reassignment of cultivated plants remain unresolved.
Hoya Library separates a source from the claims made from it. Citation details identify the publication; linked findings and treatments show how it is being used; archive notes state what has actually been checked. Corrections and stronger evidence can therefore be added without hiding earlier interpretations.
