Growing Profile · Historical nursery accession; present stock continuity unresolved

Hoya kerrii — Pubescent-leaved — IML 0784

The hairy-leaved kerrii recorded as IML 0784, with dated accounts of flowering and sun-exposure damage.

Current evidence boundary

This profile follows the documented IML 0784 accession and dated observations of a plant bearing that label. A hairy leaf alone does not establish the same accession.

Overview

IML 0784 is a pubescent-leaved Hoya kerrii recorded from Thailand in Liddle’s January 2009 catalogue. Pubescent means covered with fine hairs. The IML number identifies the nursery’s accession; it is not a separate botanical name. Dated Vermont Hoyas accounts describe growing and flowering a plant under this label, but its original collection locality and the continuity of plants now carrying the number remain unresolved.

What We Know

  • Liddle’s January 2009 catalogue lists IML 0784 from Thailand as a pubescent-leaved form of kerrii, separately from IML 0154 and the variegated IML 1497. The catalogue asks growers to retain the IML number because names may change while that identifier stays with the material.
  • In a 30 July 2017 Vermont Hoyas account, Doug reports that his seven-year-old plant developed extensive blistering after a move to a south-facing workplace windowsill. He restarted it from cuttings and reports that the plant he kept flowered within two years.
  • A separate account dated 29 July 2017 reports flowering and numerous peduncles on the plant labelled IML 0784. These dated reports document one grower’s experience. They do not establish a measured growth rate, a universal flowering timetable or an exact safe light level.
  • Keep the complete accession label and supplier history with a plant. A description such as hairy-leaved or pubescent is useful to record, but does not by itself connect a plant to the historical IML 0784 material.

What We Are Still Learning

Can present hairy-leaved plants be traced to IML 0784?

What would help: Original accession and supplier records connecting the historical listing to an identified living plant.
