Why this organization appears in Hoya Library
Historical Hoya nursery and research archive associated with Ted Green in Hawaii; documented through a 2008 catalog and a 2022 memorial.
A nursery and a research archive
Green: Plant Research is a historical nursery and research-collection name associated with Ted Green in Hawaii. In her 2022 memorial, Rachel Colette Conroy describes Green Plant Research at his home in Kaʻaʻawa. Her account identifies journals, sketches, older catalogs, herbarium material and records of plant sales and exchanges.[1]
These records could help trace a published name or the movement of cultivated material. The memorial describes the collection in its historical setting; it does not establish where each item is held today or whether researchers can consult it.
Reading the dated catalog
The Rare Hoyas catalog revised 9 March 2008 preserves plant listings and Green’s notes about names, cultivation and collecting. It records what that edition said, rather than current availability or the identity of every plant now carrying a similar label.[2]
When using a catalog entry for provenance research, keep its date and exact wording with the record. A later plant needs its own documented connection to that historical material.
What remains unresolved
The sources checked here do not settle the nursery’s founding date, formal legal identity, full operating history, or present custody and access arrangements for the research archive. Green: Plant Research and Green Plant Research are retained as name variants in this historical context; Ted Green remains a separate Person record.
